tonight I cut my finger on a saw blade so bad I may need stitches...

so my teacher frank helped me finish my sawing and I was on my way

and I have to admit to being not that great with pushing forward with my jewelry

 I finally made the safety pin in sterling silver. it's smaller than the other, but still oversized.

I think it came out a pretty well...

I'm making this new ring that is a symbol of layers that individuals have...

a very positive day indeed

I am very lucky. The warmth of the people in my life is overwhelming at times.

 

 

Regina Spektor sings for Doctors Without Borders (again)

A little late to talk about this, but better late than never!

You may recall my post containing pictures from Regina Spektor's a concert at Irving Plaza a few months ago. All proceeds went to support Haiti through Doctors Without Borders.

At the end of April, to double her relief efforts, she released this cover of Radiohead's No Surprises. I was surprised as the song was gifted to me the day of it's release. I love Radiohead, and her take on the song is haunting and beautiful.

It is such a wonderful organization. When my sister graduates from BC as a nurse next summer, she wants my mom (nurse), father (doctor), and me (she said they will have me teach) all go together with the organization as her graduation gift...  Wishing it was this summer.

I am re-reading this play for the that feels like thousandth time. For some reason, the final scene gets me every time. So many principles of math and physics woven into the actions of the play-- and as the characters attempt to define and establish order through the theories they come up with, they are time and time again overturned. It is the chaos theory. For life is nothing but chaos.  Somehow, however, within this chaos, order can be found, and seen...

Which brings us to the subject and theory of determinism.

Isn't it odd-- to think that our actions, events,  the behavior we exhibit, our decisions are all influenced by actions and events in the past? That perhaps we all have a path that is pre-determined? That even the decision to try to change our fate is part of this determined path?

What about free will?
